OJHL LEAGUE STAFF
Commissioner: Marty Savoy
Marty started with the OJHL as the league’s first full-time Commissioner in July of 2009 and currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Canadian Junior Hockey League. Hockey Canada employed Marty for 10 years, where he served as the General Manager for Hockey Canada’s 5 regional Centres of Excellence. During his time with Hockey Canada, Marty was a member of several National and Provincial committees.
Marty also served as a Team Leader for several World Junior Championship Evaluation Camps and was the Team Leader for the 2002 Team Canada Men’s World Championship Team. Marty also travelled throughout Ontario with the Canadian Men’s and Women’s National Teams while at Hockey Canada, conducting local player and coach clinics with National team players and coaches. Marty’s other hockey experience includes a year as the Video coordinator for the Calgary Flames and a year as an Assistant Coach in the OUA. Marty’s other work experience includes working in the Regional Marketing Department of TDL (Tim Hortons) and three years as a Director of Business Development / Marketing and Communications for a mobile content company.
In 2019, Marty was awarded the Vern Neal Volunteer of the Year Award by the Burlington Girls Hockey Club for his long-term service to the Barracuda organization. Marty also received the 2002 Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and, in 1999, received a Recognition Award from the Ontario Hockey Federation for Outstanding Contributions to Hockey Development.

The OJHL Foundation is a non-profit organization designed to provide support and programs to it’s players, member teams and alumni.
The Board Structure
The OJHL Foundation Board of Directors is made up of 6 members including a Chair, 4 Directors and an Executive Director.
The OJHL Foundation Board of Directors will ensure the strategic plans and deployment plans will drive the constant improvement and execution
Developing Young Men Through Hockey
The OJHL Foundation proceeds raised are invested directly into the core mandates of the organization.
The OJHL Foundation is designed to provide support to financially disadvantaged junior hockey players, create and provide education bursaries and scholarships, raise health and concussion awareness and develop and implement programs on substance abuse, depression and bullying for all the players of the OJHL.

OJHL “First Assist” Life Skills and Mental Wellness Program
This program is supported by the Legacy Foundation of Canada and is a comprehensive seminar with the goal of providing players with information about mental health and to help them take that information and apply it to their own lives and continue to do so in order to maintain good mental health.
- Support our players with resources on a team by team and player by player basis
- Support parents and billets with resources on awareness.
- Focused on mental wellness, positive youth development, resilience building
- Utilizing discussion based learning and skill development needed to improve mental well being and bounce back in times of distress
- Gaining an understanding related to concerns commonly faced by youth and issues specifically linked to hockey
- The connection between physical and mental health
- This program is available in both in-person and on-line sessions
